Reducing Artificial Fragrances in Your Home: Tips and Tricks
·
·
This week, let's chat about something that might just change the way you feel about your home – artificial fragrances and how to try and get rid of them around the house. Why bother, you ask? Well, it turns out those sweet-smelling scents from sprays, cleaners, and even personal care products often come with a not-so-sweet side: a cocktail of chemicals that could be doing more harm than good, especially for those with allergies or sensitivities.
Let's Make a Change Together!
1. Natural Air Fresheners? Yes, Please!
Forget those spray cans and plug-ins. Even the ones that often market themselves as having pure essential oils often mix them with artificial fragrances to boost the scent. Why bother when there are some great natural alternatives?
-
Essential Oils: A diffuser with a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus can do wonders and feels so refreshing.
-
Simmer Pots: Boil some water, throw in lemon slices, rosemary, and maybe a cinnamon stick. Your house will smell like a dream!
-
Houseplants: Did you know plants like spider plants clean the air? Pretty and practical!
2. Cleaning Up the Cleaning Supplies
Shopping for cleaners can be frustrating. If you do buy these from the supermarket, look for ‘fragrance-free’. If you really want a bit of fragrance, then just add your own essential oils. Better yet, whip up your own with staples. Our soap flakes and multi-purpose cleaning soap are all you need. Vinegar and baking soda are also essentials in my cleaning cupboard. Purging the supermarket crap is easier than you think and your home will thank you for it!
3. Laundry Can Be Natural Too
Those laundry smells that stick around? They're often artificial. Again, try our soaps flakes or our newly released laundry and stain soap. Your clothes, skin and health will thank you for it!
4. Tweak Your Personal Care
Our bodies also deserve a break from the heavy fragrances found in many soaps and lotions. If you haven't already, why not switch to something more natural from our own range? We have lots of unscented options and our scented ones use pure essential oils that give you true aromatherapy bliss every shower.
5. Become a Label Detective
Ever wonder what's really in your products? If it says ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum,’ that's your cue for synthetics. Knowing what to look for makes all the difference.
6. Baking Soda to the Rescue
Stash a box of baking soda in your fridge or closet. It’s great at making sure smells stay fresh without adding any scents.

I'm all about small steps. Starting small can lead to big changes. Maybe swap out one product at a time? Every little bit helps you, your family, and our beautiful planet.
Here’s to healthy homes and happy noses!
